Take the Employer's Gateway Survey here. Please take this survey if you have had one of our Gateway students with you.

How can Gateway help you?

Share your industry:

This is a chance for you, as an employer, to give a student a chance at experiencing and learning your chosen career, which could lead to future employment with you. This is at no cost to you financially.

Be a role model:

Gateway is designed to be 'employer friendly'. You, the employer, will be seen as a role model and mentor as the student will need to ask relevant questions when working on specific tasks.

Help with learning:

The student will be provided with relevant Unit Standards to complete during their placement. The appropriate Unit Standards are discussed with you, the employer, and the student to ensure they are achievable within the workplace.

Flexible hours:

The period of time a student spends in the workplace is about 40 hours, which is worked to suit all parties, eg. 1 day a week, or an afternoon a week for so many weeks, or 2 weeks full time in their holidays. Some students will be doing this programme over and above their normal school workload and any days missed at school will be at the responsibility of the student to catch up. Gateway is flexible and placements are set to suit all parties.

No stress:

The Unit Standard will be assessed in the workplace by either (a) a registered assessor, (b) an accredited PTE or (c) Te Aroha College. It is the responsibility of the Gateway Coordinator to ensure the Units are assessed and registered on the NZQA Framework.

Induction day:

We offer an induction day, which would be included in the hours; to allow you, the employer, and the student to 'terminate' the placement if it is obvious the arrangement is not going to work. Any specific clothing requirements will be purchased at the cost of Gateway i.e. work boots, ear muffs.

Non-intrusive:

Gateway is a structured learning environment, which is monitored constantly by the Liaison Officer. Workplace visits are regular but not intrusive.
